- Figuring Out Fact Fluency (Addition and Subtraction OR Multiplication and Division)
- Audience: 1-5 grade teachers of mathematics, Math Coaches, Administrators
- Session Length: One 3-hour session or Full Day Option
- Description: During this professional learning opportunity, participants will explore what fact fluency is. Participants will take away a progression for foundational facts and derived facts, as well as instructional strategies. Through easy to implement activities, participants will also engage in meaningful practice. In addition, they will leave with ideas of how to assess fact fluency without the use of timed tests.
- Process Standard Overview: It’s a Process! The “How” of Math
- Audience: K-12 grade teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 2.5-3 hours
- Description: Participants will discuss definitions of Mathematics and explore how the Mathematical Process Standards describe “how” we teach and the content indicators are “what” we teach. Attendees will use the indicator insights to make connections between the process standards and the content indicators. Participants will leave with strategies and resources to facilitate lesson planning that integrates the process standards and content indicators.
- Mathematical Progressions
- Audience: K-12 grade teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 2.5-3 hours
- Description: Through collaboration and vertical conversations, participants will explore mathematical progressions of identified math standards. Attendees will leave with an understanding of how to analyze an indicator to create a mathematical progression.
- Using Rubrics to Assess Student Performance
- Audience: K-12 grade teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 2.5-3 hours
- Description: Participants will utilize rubrics to assess mathematical tasks. They will be immersed in creating rubrics for multiple mathematical tasks with embedded time to reflect and discuss the implications of their learning for students. Attendees will leave with a mathematical task and an accompanying rubric to use within their classroom.
- Building Connections: From Hands on Learning to Abstract Reasoning
- Audience: K-12 grade teachers of mathematics, Math Coaches, Administrators
- Session Length: One 3-hour session or Full Day Option
- Description: This professional learning opportunity focuses on fostering understanding and communicating student knowledge of math concepts and skills through the use of manipulatives and models. Participants will gain strategies to help develop conceptual knowledge in students.
- Using Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels to Drive Assessment
- Audience: 3-12 grade teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 2.5-3 hours
- Description: Participants will review DOK levels to familiarize themselves with the way math questions are asked at each level. Then they will analyze assessment items to determine DOK Levels and standard correlation, including connecting them to the process standards. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of the cognitive complexity of assessment items.
- Mathematical Tasks
- Audience: 6-12 teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 2.5-3 hours
- Description: During the session, participants will determine what makes a rich math task and analyze several tasks. They will then work through a grade level/subject appropriate task, analyzing it for the quality characteristics already discussed. Participants will leave with at least one quality math task aligned to the HQIM.
- Manipulatives in the Middle School Math Classroom
- Audience: 6-8 grade teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 2 hours
- Description: Participants will engage in activities using common manipulatives to enhance student understanding of specific math concepts. Participants will leave with activities that can be embedded into different parts of their lessons.
- Solving Systems of Equations Using the Area of a Rectangle
- Audience: 8-12 grade teachers of mathematics, Instructional Coaches, Math Specialists, Administrators
- Session Length: 1 hour
- Description: Participants will explore organizing and solving real-world systems of equations conceptually. Attendees will find the solutions to systems of equations word problems using the area model. Participants will leave with a strategy to conceptually introduce real-world situations using systems of equations.
- Engaging Students in Geometry with Statistics
- Audience: Geometry with Statistics teachers
- Session Length: 3 hours
- Description: This session provides practical strategies and ready-to-use activities designed to actively engage students using geometric concepts from the 2025 SC CCR Geometry with Statistics standards and indicators. Learn how to move beyond lectures by incorporating real-world applications, collaborative and tactile experiences that make math relevant and deeply understood.
- Reasoning with Purpose: Empowering Teachers to Promote Critical Math Thinking
- Audience: High School Mathematics Teachers
- Session Length: 3 hours
- Description: This session is designed to equip educators with practical strategies to nurture deep mathematical reasoning in their classrooms. It emphasizes purposeful reasoning as a key to enhancing student success and engagement, helping teachers cultivate reflective and independent mathematical thinkers. Participants will actively engage in activities to unlock students’ mathematical thinking by connecting concepts, encouraging logical analysis, and fostering problem-solving skills.
- Mastering Applications & Modeling to Transform Math
- Audience: Mathematics teachers of Applications and Modeling
- Session Length: 3 hours
- Description: This training is designed to equip teachers with the tools to deepen student understanding and engagement by harnessing the power of real-world applications and mathematical modeling. By focusing on bridging abstract math concepts with practical, meaningful contexts, educators can guide students in applying mathematical reasoning purposefully, leading to improved learning outcomes. Participants in this training will not only learn but also actively engage in the process. They will explore practical strategies to integrate application and modeling tasks that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and logical analysis.
