Gifted and Talented Graduate Course Program
Gifted and Talented (GT) Graduate Course Program funding will be provided to institutions of higher education that offer tuition-free graduate courses for teachers who are pursuing either endorsement or certification in GT education. These courses will be designed for the following topics:
Advanced Placement (AP) Teacher Institute
The purpose of the Advanced Placement (AP) Teacher Institutes is to provide South Carolina public school teachers with the special endorsement to teach an AP course as required in S.C. Code Ann. Reg. 43-258.1 (2018). Teachers who successfully complete an AP teacher institute will be awarded special AP endorsement in the specific AP class area.
The purpose of these institutes is to provide initial training for newly assigned AP teachers specifically in the content of the subject area. The institute should prepare teachers to implement the AP class effectively according to College Board requirements, provide a depth of content knowledge in the specific subject area, and provide effective instructional strategies for teaching AP students.
African American History Instructional Materials Grant 2023 - Round Two
The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) will award grant funds to nonprofit organizations, school districts, or institutions of higher education for the development of new inquiry-based instructional materials aligned to the 2019 South Carolina Social Studies College- and Career-Ready Standards (2019 Standards) via one of the following approaches:
The purpose of the Arts Curricular Innovation Grants (ACIG) is to assist schools and districts in developing and implementing arts initiatives that support quality arts education programs that significantly improve student achievement in the arts. ACIG funds must be used to develop quality comprehensive and sequential arts programs in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts that operate during the regular school day. The ACIG features two grant programs—the Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) grants and the Innovative Arts Works grants.
The Archibald Rutledge Scholarship program, named for South Carolina’s first poet laureate, offers twelfth-grade students (enrolled in a public school in South Carolina) the opportunity to compete for a scholarship in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts as well as encourages and recognizes academic and artistic excellence among South Carolina students.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are the nation's highest honors for mathematics and science teachers. The program recognizes teachers for their contributions to instruction and learning, as well as their ability to help students make progress in mathematics and science. Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
