World Language Proficiency
On March 14, 2023, the State Board of Education approved the revision of the American Sign Language (ASL) Standards and their integration into the
2019 South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards for World Language Proficiency. The integration was based on two tenets: inclusivity and alignment. To achieve inclusivity, all modern language content in the 2019 World Language Standards document needed to be inclusive of ASL and Deaf culture. To achieve alignment, all ASL content revised or added to the 2019 World Language Standards document needed to align and be represented in the same way as all other modern languages.
