Francis Marion University Confers Master's Degrees In Special Education With SCDE Scholarship Funding

Columbia, S.C. – State Superintendent of Education Molly M. Spearman announces that Francis Marion University recently awarded Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education degrees to a Cohort of 13 candidates.  The participants received full scholarships through the South Carolina Office of Special Education Services’ SC-CREATE program, which operates centers at 13 of the state’s leading colleges and universities, including Francis Marion.

Spearman announced that Spartanburg School District Three was chosen as the winner of one of only four national College Board Gaston Caperton Opportunity Awards along with a $25,000 award to support programs encouraging students to attend college.  Additionally, The College Board named two State AP Scholars for their outstanding achievement on AP exams for the 2014-15 school year.

Spearman announced that South Carolina will receive a new grant award of more than $30 million over the course of the next five years from the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter Schools Program.  The funding will be used to expand existing public charter schools and open new ones across the state.
