ELA Assessment Specifications for Teachers

The ELA Assessment Specifications for Teachers documents replace the ELA Assessment Boundaries documents. The assessment specifications define the purpose of the SC READY and EOCEP ELA assessments and provide important information regarding the content to be measured. The assessment specifications also serve as a road map to guide South Carolina educators in the development and subsequent review of items that best measure the 2024 SC CCR ELA standards.

The ELA Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs) for 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, and English 2 are also available.

These item specifications are not intended to serve as a curriculum or instructional guide. The information found within these documents reflects the content limits and the foundational knowledge targets addressed by state assessments.

Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs)

Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs) are descriptions that show the progression of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that students are expected to have mastered across performances levels as defined by the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready (SCCCR) content standards. A committee of South Carolina educators and curriculum experts were selected to review and revise the PLDs to articulate the expectations of the SCCCR standards.
