Dr. Joette C. Johnson represents Cherokee and Spartanburg Counties of the 7th Judicial Circuit. She retired from Spartanburg School District 7 after 38 years in public school education, as an administrator of a county-wide school dedicated to serving children with disabilities.
Dr. Johnson earned a BA in Elementary Education from Limestone University, a Master's in Special Education, and Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
Dr. Johnson began her career as a classroom teacher of special needs students. After teaching a few years, she was a facilitator of student evaluation in Greenville County for a short time, coordinated staff development, assisted teachers and students with behavior management, and became director of a program that served special needs children in Spartanburg County. She taught undergraduate courses in exceptional children at Limestone University and at Converse University, as well as graduate classes in School Leadership. She served the Cherokee County Special Needs Board as a member and as Board Chair, on the Spartanburg County Special Needs Board as an advisor and served on the Cherokee County First Steps Board as member, committee chair and as Board Chair. Dr. Johnson has held membership in numerous professional organizations where she has presented or assisted in coordinating the event. Dr. Johnson believes that a strong education system is the catalyst for a strong community and a strong and thriving state. She has always been an advocate for children and teachers.
Dr. Johnson and her husband reside on a farm in Gaffney. She is a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. They have two sons and four adorable grandchildren.
