David began his career as a middle school social studies teacher before transitioning to administration. As an administrator, he has served as an assistant principal, elementary and middle school principal, and district administrator. David also served as Superintendent of Saluda County Schools for nine years. He retired in January 2023 as Deputy Superintendent of the Division of College and Career Readiness at the South Carolina Department of Education.
In addition to his work in education, David has been involved in several professional organizations. He served as president of SCASCD* (2004) and was elected to the worldwide ASCD* Board of Directors (2012-2015), Chair of the Superintendents Division of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) (2015-16), and President of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) (2017-18). David also served on the South Carolina First Steps Board (2018-2022).
David has a passion and commitment for building capacity in teachers and school level leaders both of which have the greatest impact on student success. He holds a BA in History, M.Ed. in Secondary Education, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.
David and his wife Cindy live in North Augusta, SC. In his spare time, David enjoys playing golf and taking long walks along the Savannah River. He is honored to serve on the State Board of Education representing the 2nd Judicial Circuit.
