Byron is Chairman of the National Family Engagement Alliance (NFEA), a nonprofit dedicated to transforming education through meaningful family engagement. He is the former Director of Educational Leadership & Policy for Microsoft and serves as a consulting author for Scholastic.

Tips for Tracking Your Federal Dollars That You Absolutely Can’t Miss

  • This session is especially tailored to those who work in Finance. Presenters will discuss allocation essentials, claiming requirements and expectations, and best practices for tracking grant dollars throughout a grant’s lifecycle.


An Overview of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Grant

  • The 21st CCLC is a program that provides federal funds to LEAs, CBOs, faith-based and other organizations (through a competitive competition) to provide additional academic supports to assist students in meeting challenging academic standards. Foster Care 101

  • Presented by - Birley Wright, Barbara A. Drayton, and Deputy General Counsel, SCDE
  • This session will address key components of the Fostering Connections Act. Participants will learn the Best Interest Determination (BID) process for enrolling foster care students and discuss ways to collaborate with local DSS agencies. Attendees will also explore Proviso 1.8 and its fiscal impact on the district and other legal issues to be aware of when supporting educational stability of foster care students.


Parent and Family Engagement Compliance in Title I: What You Need to Know

Title III, Part A: Multilingual Learner and Immigrant Children & Youth Program FUNding

  • This session will provide updates on ESSER reporting, monitoring and allowable uses of funds.


ATSI and CSI Updates

  • This session will discuss pertinent information regarding identification of ATSI/CSI schools, exit criteria, as well as writing plans for Federal Funding received for these improvement designations.


Equitable Services: How It Applies to All Eligible Grants

  • Presented by - Theresa Gregory, Susan Murphy, and Zach Taylor, SCDE
  • This session will provide participants with an overview of equitable services for Title I – Part A and Title IX.  It will discuss allowability and general information for the LEA to have a successful meeting with private school administration.


Teaching Students in Poverty: Evidence-Based Strategies & Interventions That Work

  • Presented by - Devetter Bradley, SCDE
  • This session will provide participants with an overview of schoolwide evidence-based interventions that were implemented in a high-poverty rural school in South Carolina. These interventions were successful in increasing the academic success of students in poverty.


Career and Technical Education Updates

  • The Office of Career and Technical Education provides leadership and services to districts and schools which support career and technical instruction for students in grades seven through twelve. This session will provide updates, best practices for the most effective use of federal funds, and ideas for the successful integration of academic and career and technical instruction.
