The South Carolina Department of Education has partnered with the Council for Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) through the Network for Transforming Educator Preparation (NTEP) and various education stakeholders to revise and update the guidelines related to educator preparation.

Nicole Bishop, a teacher at Irmo Elementary School in District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties , has been named the 2017 South Carolina History Teacher of the Year. This award is presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, a national organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.

Summer Reading Camps Provide Additional Instruction for Students with Severe Reading Difficulties

The South Carolina Department of Education and school districts across the state are gearing up to provide additional support and time on task for struggling third grade readers through Read to Succeed Summer Reading Camps. Reading camps serve students with severe reading difficulties by providing them with the necessary skills to become successful lifelong readers.
