VirtualSC Educator Wins National Teacher of the Year Award

The South Carolina Department of Education and State Superintendent Molly Spearman are proud to announce Ms. Trixi DeRosa-Davis of Greer, S.C. as the 2016 International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) Blended and Online Learning Teacher of the Year. She received this award at the iNACOL Blended and Online Learning Symposium in San Antonio, Texas on October 27, 2016. Previously, Trixi was named the 2016 VirtualSC Teacher of the Year.

SC Outpaces Nation on Science Report

South Carolina was among 14 states to show significant score increases on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) science test. The NAEP science test was administered to approximately 4600 4th and 8th grade students in the spring of 2015.

SCDE to Host Statewide Webinar on ESSA Implementation and the Development of the Consolidated State Plan

State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman issued the following statement encouraging the public to participate in next week’s webinar on the SC Department of Education’s development of South Carolina’s Consolidated State Plan, in connection with the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Action (ESSA).

Public Invited to Review Proposed Instructional Materials and Textbooks

The public is invited to review textbooks and instructional materials that have been proposed for use in South Carolina’s public schools. The materials will be on display from October 21 through November 21.

Release of SCPASS, SC READY, and EOCEP Data

State Superintendent Molly Spearman and the South Carolina Department of Education released the 2015-2016 school year assessment results of The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) and The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY), examinations given in the elementary and middle school grade levels. The results of the End of Course Examination (EOCEP) are also being released.
