Spearman announced that Brooke Lance and Joseph Parker have been chosen as recipients of the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 2013-14 school year. Spearman issued the following statement, congratulating Mary Huffman, a fifth grade teacher at Charles Pinckney Elementary in Mount Pleasant, for being named the 2015 National History Teacher of the Year.  She is the first South Carolina teacher to win this national distinction.
