Applicants are responsible for providing an accurate, complete application that includes all requested supporting documentation of eligibility. In addition, applicants must meet all requirements for admission into the CTE work-based certification program that are in effect on the date of receipt of all required documentation. An incomplete application will be considered active for a period of twelve months. If after twelve months the applicant has not submitted all required documentation, the application will be archived.
To begin the application process for work-based program enrollment, please complete an online application through the My SC Educator Portal prior to completion of any other steps.
After an application for program enrollment is submitted through My SC Educator Portal, applicants must provide all of the following supporting documentation to complete the application process:
All certification requests and supporting documents must be submitted through My SC Educator Portal. All supporting documents must be in PDF format and legible. Please note that photographs of documents will not be accepted.

Work history information may be used to meet CTE Work-Based Field Experience Requirements. Paid or unpaid internships that are required by a degree program and/or certificate, certification or registration may not be used to meet any part of this work experience requirement.
Please note that Health Science Technology applicants must establish the minimum required work experience in the health care field after obtaining professional certification or registration.

Applicants must provide official documentation of all required post-secondary education and/or any specialized curriculum training required by the requested field of certification.
A minimum of an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university is required for Culinary Arts, Health Science, Engineering and Information Technology.
All transcripts must be official and bear the official seal, the signature of the designated official, the type of degree earned, if any, and the date awarded.
CTE applicants must present either passing scores on an approved basic skills and field competency examination or a Professional Industry License / Registration. The requirement is determined based on the applicant's chosen certification field. Additional information is provided through the CTE Basic Skills and Area Competency PDF document.
If applicable, applicants may provide copies of previously earned and active industry certifications approved by the State Board of Education in fields where a state or nationally recognized industry competency examination is required. These copies must be certified as true copies by a notary public and may be used to validate area competency.
Applicants for Cosmetology, Esthetics, Barbering, and Nail Technology must provide copies of an active S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Instructor’s Licenses.
Applicants for Information Technology must provide copies of an active, nationally recognized license, certification or registration in the specialty area of information technology.
Applicants for Engineering Technology must provide a certificate of completion for the specialized curriculum training required and approved by the Office of Career and Technical Education.
Applicants for Health Science Technology must provide copies of an active S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation certificate and/or a nationally recognized health care professional license, certification, or registration.

Fingerprinting process and criminal records review instructions are available in My SC Educator Portal upon completion of a certification application.
Qualified candidates will be issued a Letter of Eligibility (LOE). A Confirmation of Employment (COE) must be completed by the employing South Carolina public school district. The form is available to districts only through the SC Educator system. Receipt of the completed COE triggers the issuance of an Induction certificate and officially enrolls the candidate into the Five-Year CTE Work-Based Certification Program.
