Plexi-Glass Recyling
The SC Department of Education purchased plexi-glass on behalf of school districts. While school districts do not need our permission to dispose it, they should strongly consider continued COVID-19 mitigation efforts before disposing of the units. If a district no longer needs plexi-glass to surround desks, etc, you should consider its reuse or repurpose within your district. The SCDE cannot accept the plexi-glass back. We strongly encourage you to offer it to other districts within SC before you dispose or recycle it. Please follow your district’s Surplus/Disposition policy, and consider all possibilities before sending these units to the dumpsters or landfills.

SCDE Purchased Cloth Masks (Multiple Sources):
The SCDE has purchased five cloth face masks for every teacher, nutrition staff member (employed by the district), custodian (employed by the district), and school bus driver. The masks are being shipped by the mask vendor or directly from the SCDE and will be received prior to the start of the 2020-21 school year. The agency has also purchased disposable face masks that will be present on all state owned school buses in order to help facilitate the school bus rider face mask requirement.

SCDE Purchased Cleaning Equipment and Solutions:
The SCDE has purchased one electrostatic backpack sprayer and one electrostatic handheld sprayer for each of the state’s 180 school bus parking locations. Cleaning solution for each sprayer is also being provided by the agency.

The SCDE consulted with DHEC regarding the purchase of the disinfectant product. The SCDE chose this product for ease of use since it will be used at bus locations throughout the state. Consult with your school facilities director or school nurse before purchasing disinfectant products.
