New charter schools that have received approval from their chartering authorizer (sponsor) to open in the 2018–19 school year may submit grant applications for this funding round.
A new charter school applicant that has not yet received an approval/denial determination from its authorizer (sponsor) may also submit a grant application. However, to receive subgrant funds, an applicant must be officially approved by an authorizer (sponsor). Funds will not be awarded until the approval is confirmed.
A charter school which meets the federal definition of a charter school and in the first year of operation may apply for an implementation-only subgrant for up to 24 months. See RFP for additional information on eligibility.
