Building Instructional Capacity (BIC)

Who is it for?

Building Instructional Capacity (BIC) is designed to support principals, assistant principals, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders as they continue to develop as instructional leaders at their schools. Ideally, schools would send an administrator (principal or assistant principal) and a teacher leader or two. Individual educators may also attend. Participants enrolled in BIC focus on leading adults to improve instruction, instructional vision, data literacy, serving each student and building a community of support.

What does it look like?

Participants enrolled in BIC focus on leading adults, vision, data literacy, equity, and building a community of support. We believe building instructional capacity is a way of thinking and not a program. We will model how to reflect on multiple sources of data to uncover opportunities to increase equitable access to effective instruction for all students. The following is a requirement for all BIC participants: Each participant will create a personalized learning outcome (PLO) based on personal and school needs. Ideally, the PLO will align to a school need and a desired area of growth for the participant. We will utilize case studies and small group discussion to support each participant as they apply their new knowledge back at their school.
