Instructional Leadership Professional Learning Opportunities

The Office of Educator Effectiveness and Leadership Development’s mission is to provide a continuum of personalized, competency-driven resources and professional learning opportunities to advance educator effectiveness and build leadership capacity. Our leadership development cohorts focus on instructional leadership, specifically in the areas of equitable access to effective instruction, collective leadership, and personalization.

Why is instructional leadership at the heart of our work?

Every student deserves effective teaching and a school environment that is safe and inclusive.

Equitable Access to Effective Instruction
  • We model how to reflect on multiple sources of data to uncover opportunities to increase equitable access to effective instruction for all students.

  • We believe an environment that is safe and inclusive for students, families, and educators is the foundation for equity.

  • Related Standards (PSEL 4a, PADEPP 2) A leader sets and communicates high standards for coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment that embody high expectations for student learning, align with academic standards, and are culturally responsive.

How can instructional leadership become a part of the learning culture?

Every leader should engage in inquiry and collaboration.

Collective Leadership
  • We model building capacity in and co-constructing understanding with those we serve.

  • We believe that a strengths-based approach to collective leadership has the power to retain leaders and improve instruction.

  • Related Standards (PADEPP 2) A leader collaborates with teachers and staff on a regular basis to promote the preparation of students to live productively in and contribute to the diverse cultural contexts of a global society.

What can leaders do to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate?

Every action plan should be personalized to focus on specific needs within a specific context.

Personalization
  • We model learner-centered instruction so that leaders can personalize learning for educators.

  • We believe that everyone in a school can (and should) grow with appropriate resources and feedback.

  • Related Standards (PSEL 10d, PADEPP 2) Engage others in an ongoing process of evidence-based inquiry, learning, strategic goal setting, planning, implementation, and evaluation for continuous school and classroom improvement.
