Authorized by the State Board of Education (SBE), the PRC is responsible for reviewing and recommending policies regarding educator preparation, the accreditation status of educator preparation providers, the conditional approval of new certification or specialty area programs, and continuing program recognition. A new program is approved with the condition that the program gain national or state recognition at the time of cyclical review or when the program has ten or more completers. The PRC also hears proposals for experimentation and innovation as well as appeals from EPPs regarding relief from standing standards and policies.
