To receive experience credit on a valid South Carolina educator certificate, the applicant must provide a Verification of Teaching Experience Form, completed by the employer's human resource or payroll personnel. The completed form may be submitted directly from the employer to certification@ed.sc.gov or uploaded by the educator using My SC Educator Portal.
The Office of Educator Services may also request an official description of the professional duties if unable to verify eligibility for teaching experience credit. It is recommended that applicants supply this supplementary documentation with their verification form to avoid processing delays.
If submitting any experience verification documents other than the Office of Educator Services' Verification of Teaching Experience form, please be aware that documentation must include all of the following in order to be accepted:
Documentation that does not include all information required on the Verification of Teaching Experience Form is not accepted for experience credit evaluations.
Professional work experience in the public or private sector that is directly related to the content area of an educator's certificate may qualify for experience credit. For more information, see the Non-teaching Occupational Experience Credit webpage.
See Guidelines for Granting Educator Experience Credit for an overview of eligible work experiences that may be submitted.
See Computing the Experience of Teachers to find out how full-time, part-time, and summer school credit is determined.
