Truancy, Suspension and Expulsion Data

  • Reports, Student

The federal government is requiring states to establish a Uniform Management Information and Reporting System (UMIRS) to report data to meet the Elementary and Secondary Education Act legislation mandates. The legislation requires the collection and reporting of truancy rates; the frequency, seriousness, and incidence of violence and drug-related offenses resulting in student suspensions and expulsions; the types of curricula, programs and services offered to truant students and students involved in violent and drug-related offenses; and the incidence, prevalence, age of onset, and perception of drug use and violence by youth in the schools and community. In addition to being reported to the federal government, this data must also be reported to the public.

As part of the Every Student Succeeds Act reporting requirements, school districts and schools are required to report specific disciplinary data. This includes the percentage of students who received in-school suspensions, out-of-school suspensions, expulsions, and bullying incidents.
