The United States Department of Education (USED) awarded a Charter Schools Program (CSP) Grant to the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) for South Carolina Quality Charter Schools in the fall of 2020 to support the initial planning, program design, and implementation of the new South Carolina charter schools. Contingent upon the receipt of funds from the USED, the SCDE is authorized to administer a Planning and Implementation (P&I) subgrant program to expand the number of high-quality charter schools available to students across the state.
In accordance with the award from the USED, the SCDE will hold a competition under this grant during the spring of 2026, with a funding period for awarded applicants tentatively scheduled to begin July 1, 2026.
Interested applicants must meet eligibility requirements as outlined in the approved grant application.
The SCDE looks forward to continuing to serve and support the growth of Charter Schools in South Carolina with this grant. If you have any questions, please contact Terri Prince.
TA sessions will be held for new subgrant recipients to review federal statutory guidance, allowable and non-allowable expenses under the subgrant awards, and other information. New subgrant recipients should contact Terri Prince for information regarding the webinar.
Sub-grant recipients must complete various reports and meet certain benchmarks throughout their project period. Resources and templates are available below and are grouped by cohort:
