Agenda for the 02/19/2020 Committee Meeting

The South Carolina School Facilities Planning and Construction Guide Committee will meet on Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 via conference call at 1-800-753-1965, access code 7346262. This meeting will be open to the public, including the Facilities Committee members.

On February 5, 2020, the Facilities Committee adjourn debate the below item and will continue the voting process on February 19th, 2020.
    1. Delete the following to remove the requirement for fire alarm cable to be in metallic conduit:
SECTION 804.1 - Fire alarm cable must be installed in metallic conduit. If existing fire alarm conduit is reused but is too small to carry both the signal and audio cable, then:
1. All signal cable must be routed through conduit.
2. The audio circuit cable may be attached to the outside of the existing conduit when the audio cable is routed along the same path.
3. If the audio cable will run to a location beyond the existing fire alarm conduit, the audio cable must run in metallic conduit from the existing conduit to the notification device.

As you are considering proposed changes to the Guide, please keep in mind the Legislature has adopted the 2018 ICC Code Editions as the minimum code requirements for the entire state, both public and private construction.  As such, the committee does not have the authority to waive or reduce the minimum requirements detailed in the code. There is a separate procedure through the Building Codes Council or directly through ICC to make changes to the minimum requirements to the code. If you would like additional information on the process, please contact the Office of School Facilities.

On February 5, 2020, the vote passed to update the 2018 SC Facilities Planning and Construction Guide and sections to align with the 2018 codes adopted by the General Assembly July 1, 2019. The upcoming 2020 SC Facilities Planning and Construction Guide will include this change and other changes approved by the Facilities Committee members.
