The Office of Transportation is responsible for the entire state fleet of public school buses. Some of the Office's key areas of competency include:
- providing, maintaining, and servicing the state school bus fleet;
- managing the school bus driver training and certification program;
- monitoring school transportation safety and providing programs to enhance student transportation safety;
- assisting districts with school bus routing and scheduling;
- aiding districts to respond to federal school transportation mandates.
In school year 2011, the fleet of 5630 buses traveled nearly 81 million miles using over 12 million gallons of diesel fuel to transport over 647,000 students daily.
