Instructional Supports

The mission of the Office of Instructional Supports is dedicated to advancing high-quality instruction for all students by strengthening the capacity of educators and fostering meaningful collaboration with students and families. The office oversees the implementation of several key statewide initiatives, including the Child Early Reading and Development Education Program (CERDEP), a public 4K (pre-kindergarten) program; a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), established through ACT 213; the Read to Succeed legislation (ACT 114); and the Palmetto Math Project (PMP). Early Learning Specialists support 4K classrooms statewide through monitoring, coaching, and professional development, including Early Childhood (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS). Literacy Specialists provide statewide support for effective reading instruction through regional professional development, and K-5 LETRS implementation. The MTSS team supports schools and districts in developing and implementing effective MTSS frameworks to address students' academic and behavioral. Palmetto Math Specialists work with schools where 50% or more of 5th or 8th grade students score in the "Does Not Meet" category on the SC READY math assessment, offering instructional support to strengthen math achievement. Together, these teams work collaboratively to ensure all educators are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of South Carolina students.
